Six SIgns of Vein Disease & Their Treatments

1.  Spider Veins or Reticular Veins

Dilated capillaries on the skin, usually red, purple, green or blue in color resembling spider legs.

2. Varicose Veins

Subcutaneous dilated rope like veins equal to or more than 3mm in diameter. These are easily recognizable to the human eye. If you see them, you have them.

3. Edema (Swollen Legs or Ankles)

A perceptible increase in the volume of fluid in the skin and tissue causing pressure and discomfort. Venous edema usually occurs in the ankle region but may extend to the leg and foot. When swelling occurs at the end of the day, after prolonged sitting or standing this might be a sign of chronic venous insufficiency.

4. Skin Changes: Pigmentation (A) or Eczema (B)

A. Pigmentation is a brownish darkening of the skin in result of extra venous blood which usually occurs in the ankle region but may extend to the leg and foot.

 

B. Eczema is a form of dermatitis, which may progress to a blistering, weeping, or scaling of the skin or the leg. It is most often located near the varicose vein but may be located anywhere on the leg.

A full thickness  defect of the skin most frequently in the ankle region that fails to heal spontaneously and is sustained by chronic venous disease.
