Eczema is a form of dermatitis, which may progress to a blistering, weeping, or scaling of the skin on the leg.
Discoloration and Scarring of your Legs
Inflammation, redness, & rashes around the ankles are signs of vein disease. Hyperpigmentation, bruising, or tattooing of the leg with a dark brown stain can occur when CVI goes untreated. In advanced cases the skin begins to look and feel like leather.
CVI or Chronic Venous Insufficiency is the abnormal flow of blood through your veins.
Visible Presence of Varicose or Spider Veins
Both are visible to the naked eye. If you can see either of these on your legs, then you have CVI.
Leg Pain or Discomfort on a Regular Basis
If you regularly experience burning, throbbing, itching, heaviness, aching, cramping, tingling, stinging or numbness of the legs, you may have CVI.
Tired or Heavy Legs after Modest Activity
If you experience fatigue accompanied by an overall lack of energy after small amounts of exercise or after a short period of time standing, you may have CVI.
Swollen Legs or Ankles Especially Late in the Day
Swelling in the ankles after prolonged sitting or standing can be a sign of CVI. Some relief from the swelling can usually be found by elevating the legs above the heart several times a day or while sleeping at night.
Restless Legs or Cramps in the Legs at Night
If you have an uncomfortable tingling sensation and/or urge to move your legs when you lay down at night to sleep or rest, you may have CVI.
Open Sores or Ulcers on the Legs near the Ankle
Untreated CVI can result in sores called venous ulcers. These sores can be slow to heal, ooze, be odiferous and embarrassing to those who suffer with them.
Facts about Signs & Symptoms
The signs and symptoms of venous disease manifest in different combinations in different individuals. And sometimes the varicose veins are deep in the legs where you can't even see them. Nevertheless, these can all be frustrating problems to deal with.
The important thing to know is that vein disease is progressive, which means it gets worse with time. The longer it goes untreated the more signs and symptoms you could end up dealing with. But the good news is that it is treatable! And the sooner it's treated the easier it is to manage.
Several of the more advanced signs and symptoms can be stopped from ever appearing with early intervention! Without treatment the disease can lead to a loss of independence and continued pain and misery.
